They can also help with bone loss and provide a more secure fit than traditional dentures. The process of getting snap-in implant dentures involves placing the implants in the jawbone and allowing time for the bone to attach to them. After this, dentures can be securely snapped onto the implants.
Most patients are eligible for treatment! However, we recommend scheduling a consultation to confirm your candidacy. During this appointment, we will conduct a 3D scan of your jawbones and a thorough examination of your mouth. The doctor will also review your medical history with you to ensure that treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
After any remaining teeth are removed and any other necessary oral surgery procedures are performed, the implants are placed into the jawbone. These implants are usually not visible after being placed. They will remain in your jaw untouched for at least 4 months while your bone attaches to them (osseointegration).
After your procedure, we will see you back for a quick post-operative appointment, which is usually scheduled 2 weeks after. At this appointment, we will evaluate your mouth, make sure that any dentures are fitting comfortably, and answer any questions you may have.
During your healing process, we will periodically use soft liners, which are cushions that we place in your dentures. These liners fill in the gaps between your gums and dentures that are created as you heal, and they also provide cushioning for your gums. They help your dentures fit and feel better.
Once you have healed, we will perform a smaller surgical procedure called uncovery to expose the implants and place small healing abutments on top of them. This helps to shape your gum tissue and prepare you to finish your snap-in dentures.
After the uncovery procedure, we will attach your dentures to your implants. This usually takes place in one day, but sometimes it may take slightly longer. We will change out the healing abutments for denture abutments and perform the necessary steps to attach your dentures.
